Terra Prima was the first Port wine to be produced using only grapes from organic viticulture. Fonseca was one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the Douro valley. Part of the surface of its most emblematic property, Quinta do Panascal, in the Távora valley, was converted to organic viticulture in 1992. Today, another property of the company, Quinta de Santo António, in the Pinhão Valley, is fully certified for the biological production. Fonseca has also developed partnerships with other producers who currently practice organic viticulture in the Douro valley. Terra Prima is a wonderfully rich and concentrated Port with fantastic flavor and texture. It has an opulent nose of black fruit, which extends into the mouth, showing layers of intense flavors of wild berry, plum and cherry, supported by firm but well integrated tannins. A Reserve Port with a delicious texture, which is velvety, soft, juicy and voluminous. It is certified as being made from organically grown grapes by SOCERT, the Portuguese certification body that is part of the European Ecocert certification system.
